Bear's Clock Path

Ages 5-6 MathNumbers & Counting Animals

Bear wakes up at 7 o'clock, and Bear's picnic is at 3 o'clock! The child draws a line from clock to clock, one hour later each time, through a grid of clock faces, and then draws Bear's snack in the picnic box. The path goes past 12 and on to 1 and 2; the picnic box, with its little 3 o'clock clock, is the 3 o'clock stop. Clocks that look almost right (hands swapped, an hour too many, the hour before) lead nowhere. No reading for the child: a grown-up reads the directions aloud. For grown-ups, the path is 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 1, 2 o'clock, then the picnic box at 3: down from the bear, right, right, right, down, left, left, down, then right into the picnic box. The short hand shows the hour; the long hand points straight up at 12 on every o'clock. Ask: What time do you eat lunch? Draw the hands on a paper plate clock together.
